How We Use AI Safely (EASY READ)

About this document

This document explains how LearnAble uses Artificial Intelligence (AI).

AI is a type of computer program that can understand and answer questions.

We want you to know how we keep you safe when you use LearnAble.

This is the Easy Read version. It uses simple words and short sentences.

The full version is also available at hellolearnable.com.au/ethics.

What is LearnAble?

LearnAble is a phone app that helps people with cognitive disability and different ways of thinking.

'Cognitive' means how your brain thinks, learns, and understands things.

We help people do things more independently every day.

LearnAble was made for YOU - people who think differently.

What does LearnAble do?

Our app uses AI to help you with everyday tasks.

We have built a special safety layer. We call it the Cognitive Accessibility Layer.

This layer sits between you and the AI. It makes sure everything is safe and easy to understand.

Think of it like a helpful filter that keeps things simple and safe for you.

Your Rights

You are always in control. Here is what that means:

1  You choose what happens

You decide how to use the app.

The AI will never make decisions for you.

You can stop using the AI at any time.

2  You can ask questions

You can always ask us how the AI works.

We will explain things in plain language.

You can ask a person to check any AI suggestion.

3  Your information is private

We keep your personal information safe.

We never sell your information.

We never share it for advertising.

How We Keep You Safe

We make things easy to understand

The AI breaks big ideas into small, simple steps.

It does not use confusing words.

It goes at your pace - not too fast.

We check how you are feeling

The app watches for signs that you might be confused or upset.

If that happens, it will connect you to a real person to help.

We do not push you

We never send you annoying messages to make you keep using the app.

We do not try to make you dependent on the app.

We want to help you become more independent.

We build the app to help you grow - not to keep you needing us.

Real People Are Always Involved

AI helps - but real people are always in charge.

People - What real people do

Your therapist or support coordinator checks what the AI suggests.

A real person looks at your support plan before anything changes.

If there is a problem, a person steps in quickly.

Who is responsible at LearnAble?

Kezia Kingston is our Occupational Therapist and Co-Founder. She is responsible for keeping you clinically safe.

Lee Hunter is our Technology Co-Founder. He is responsible for making sure the AI is built safely and follows the rules.

Your Information

What information do we collect?

We collect information to help the app work well for you.

This might include how you use the app and your communication style.

Where is your information stored?

Your information is stored safely in Australia.

It is protected with strong security.

What do we NOT do with your information?

Never - Things we will never do

Sell your information to other companies.

Use your information for advertising.

Share your identity with the AI companies we use.

Use your information to train AI without your clear permission.

Our Promises to You

We make these promises and we keep them:

Promises - What we commit to

AI will never replace human care, consent, or clinical decisions.

The safety layer will always stand between you and the AI.

We will always involve people with disability in designing our app.

We will tell you honestly how our AI works.

We will fix problems quickly if they happen.

We will keep improving as technology and needs change.

If Something Goes Wrong

We take problems very seriously.

What we do if the AI makes a mistake

We immediately stop using the response that caused a problem.

We tell you and your guardian or carer.

Our clinical team looks at it within 24 hours.

We find out why it happened and fix it.
